Brock Cornish for Rights to Galiardi · Wednesday September 5, 2007

18 year old Brock Cornish was acquired from the TC Americans for a 3rd round pick. This deal came together when Portland traded the player rights to T.J Galiardi for a 3rd round pick of the Calgary Hitmen.

This seems like a good deal for all involved. The TC Americans get a 3rd round pick for a player that may have issues
with the organization. The Calgary Hitmen negotiate with a 2nd round NHL draft pick of the Colorado Avalanche (T.J. Galiardi) that could bring a high-impact player to their front line, and the Portland Winter Hawks acquire an offensive-minded defenseman to run the power play.

For the Hawks it all depends on Cornish. Cornish had 3-7-10 in 31 games in TC last season after missing the start of the year with a broken leg.

The Hawks may look at this as a freebie, but Cornish seem to have issues at TC and after not signing Patrick Weircoich (a coveted 2005 2nd round bantam draft pick) are desperate to fill the role of an offensive minded defenseman.

Cornish had the following stats the last two seasons:

Sea Team Lge GP G A Pts PIM
05-06 Vancouver Mid 36 8 18 26 44
06-07 Tri-City AM WHL 31 3 7 10 44
