Bruins vs. Hawks - Game 24 · Sunday November 25, 2007

Kurtis Mucha Portland’s goalie put together a record breaking performance in front of 6383 screaming fans at the MC making Teddy Bear Toss night a memorable one. The 4-3 win is the second in a row.

The Bruins set a team record for most shots in a game with 68 and Mucha set a Portland team record of 65 saves.

Mucha’s save percentage is now at 91.9%, second in the WHL.

Mucha had a lot of help tonight. The Hawk defense seemed to be styming the Bruin offense all night long not giving Moller and Santorelli, the quality shots that we are use to seeing. It seemed like the Hawks were on the penalty kill most of the night.

In the first period, the Hawks jumped on the Bruins for two power play goals from Walker (2) at 4:36 and Ehrhardt (5) at 7:40.

In the second period, Portland stretched its lead to 3-0 with a short handed goal by Matt Schmermund (5) started from a two-on-one rush with Tyler Swystun as the assist.

Schmermund found a loose puck in his skates in the crease and fired it into the open net to increase the lead to 4-0 after two periods.

The Third period was the Mucha show as the Bruins fought back with goals from Mark Santorelli (9) at 3:47, Moller (23) at 15:18 and Campos (13) pp at 19:31. The Hawks would not be denied. Mucha saw a record breaking 32 shots in the third and stopped 29 to seal the win.

Chilliwack was 1/10 on the power play. Portland went 2/9.

Next up Chillawack at their place.
