Silvertips vs. Hawks - Game 67 · Saturday March 8, 2008

The Portland Winter Hawks out played and outshot the Everett Silvertips but couldn’t outscore them losing 2-1 racking up their 21st loss in a row.

Everett started off the first period with a power play goal from Lukas Vartovnik (11) off a face-off that seemed to bend like a knuckle ball passed Mucha into the right top corner. In the second period, Clayton Bauer (25) added an even strength goal to take the 2-0 lead.

The Hawks got a power play goal from Colin Reddin (2) seven minutes into the third period to cut the lead in half.

Portland appeared to have tied the game with just under five minutes remaining but referee Sean Raphael ruled the puck dead and blew his whistle before the puck crossed the goal line.

In the third period Portland put on an all out attack but could not get the tying goal.

Barrie wound up stopping 31 of 32 shots to get the victory for Everett while Kurtis Mucha stopped 20 of 22 in net for Portland. This was just the eighth game this season that Portland has out-shot their opponents.

On special teams, the Hawks finished the night 1 for 3 on the power play while Everett went 1 for 4.
Next up Seattle at home.
