Hawks First Half Report · 27 December, 17:17

Thanks to Andy Kemper for the first half team/individual stat comparison. New management is making progress and the team is showing statistical improvement, but that is like saying the stock market is improving up 10% after spending the year being down 40%.

Statistically, in comparison to last season, the Hawks have

  • 2 more wins in 2 less games
  • better shot production
  • less shots against
  • better power play and power kill numbers

Even with these improvement the Hawks are still near the bottom of the league in most team categories.

Hawk returning player stats show a mixed bag. Ehrhardt, Kerr and Mucha’s numbers are down. Francis, Walker, Valchar and Ponich’s numbers are up.

So far of the returning players, Valchar is the most improved with 10 goals, 11 assists, 21 points in 33 games.

Of course it is the teams young guns that give rise to a new Hawk future. First year, Bradley Ross with 6 goals 11 assists and Killian Hutt with 8 goals and 10 assists.

What should we expect from a young developing team? Management has decided not to add any overage help; fielding no 20 year olds. It is hard to believe there is no overage players available that could help. I am now doubting my preseason 22 game win prediction.

I don’t think we can out score, out hit, or out defend any team in the league. And with most of our games being played against US division teams, it will be hard to sneak up on anyone.

Could the Hawks surprise? I hope so. The young players are improving. Confidence is building and wins should follow.

New Hawk ownership may want to write off this season, and put the tally on previous ownership. I hope not.

Go Hawks!
