Hawks Greatest Come Back? · 10 November, 14:54

No matter what happens this year, for the 2025 Portland Winter Hawk fans at the Coliseum, the 7-5 win against the Kamloop Blazers will go down as one of the Hawk’s great games of the year.

It was a typical Hawk game, until 10 minutes to go down 5-2…and then it started.

(10:08) Killian Hutt (2) assists (Cornish, Schmermund)
(10:36) Killian Hutt (3) assists (Ross, Reddin)
(12:23) Colin Reddin (4) unassisted
(16:47) Matt Schemermund (1) assists (Gabriel, Ponich)

Kamloop’s pulls the goalie and the Hawks appeared to get an empty-net goal when Brett Ponich flipped the puck off the boards and it rolled into the Kamloops net, but it was disallowed because it went off the ref. But that didn’t stop the Hawks. A few seconds later Luke Walker came flying across the ice to push the final goal into the net.

(19:21) Luke Walker (6) assists (Francis, Valchar)

All that penned up frustration of not scoring was released.
Wow.

Was it the greatest Hawks come back? I don’t know, but it was the greatest come back I have seen in the last 5 years. In fact I can’t remember anything quite like it. For a team that hasn’t scored 5 goals in a game for the last 2 years to score 5 goals in 10 minutes it is still unbelievable.

Sitting back after the 6-2 loss to Red Deer the previous night, my son and I decided to take a more detached view of the typical home 6-2 Hawk losing performance. And when the Hawks went down 5-2 we said “no problem” “hockey is good win or lose.”

But, the hockey gods were smiling on us tonight. They took pity on us and created the great swooshing sound of pucks going in our opponent’s net.
