Hawks Trade Tristan King · 8 May, 16:18

Hawks get younger, trade 18 year old (hockey years) Tristan King for 17 year old Killian Hutt.

From the Portland Tribune:

Hutt led the Alberta Midget Hockey League in goals during the 2007-08 season recording 33 in 36 games. The 16-year old added 33 assists for the “AAA” level Knights of Columbus Pats.

Winter Hawks Director of Player Personnel, Matt Bardsley, first saw Hutt play while scouting another Winter Hawks prospect.

“I was there to watch one of our guys, but I couldn’t keep my eyes off of Killian. He is really an exciting player.” Bardsley says.

Ken Hodge, Winter Hawks general manager, saw Hutt play later in the season and agreed with Bardsley’s assessment.

“He is an offensive player who loves to score. He sees the ice very well, plays with a lot of energy and a great hockey sense. Killian loves to compete and we believe that he will be able to score at this level,” Hodge says.

Medicine Hat originally acquired Hutt with the 126th overall selection (sixth Round) of the 2006 Western Hockey League bantam draft.

Translation: Hawks believe that this 17 year old kid who hasn’t played in the WHL has looked so good that we need to give up on Tristan King and start developing another 17 year old.

Is this another piece to winning a future Memorial Cup? According to Matt Bardsley Director of Player Personnel and GM Ken Hodge this kid is the real deal.

Unless Medicine Hat is unaware of Killian’s upside they think 18 year old Tristan King is going to add more to their team this year.

This fan is not looking forward to another disastrous rebuilding year. My advise to Hawk management “Find players that can help win games this year.”
